Greetings and Happy New Year to you and you family. May 2010 continue to bring you happiness and peace.

With 2010, FamilyPlace is getting to be 12 years old - this means, secondary schools for Malaysian. This also mean evolution and change in focus for our lives - focus on  education, to be more precise alternative education.

Much of our thoughts are shared in our Learning Beyond Schooling Website Site.

Needless to say, unschooling our children - takes a lot of time from us, especially when one of us is working a regular job. You will notice that we have not been updatingWe therefore, invite you to visit LEARNING BEYOND SCHOOLING

It has been a rather quiet 6 month in FamilyPlace but a lot of things are happening (behind the website). Answering your emails has proved to be quite a challenge. We have been receiving emails almost everyday asking about or seeking help regarding childrens education ranging from problem with teachers, schools, homework and most have asked about alternatives, especially education. There are no boiler-plate answers as each family's experience is different, if we have not gotten back to you please be patient of email us again. We apologize if we missed your mails.

Judging from our the emails received, even as a far away as Australia and the US - the interest in homeschooling is not just a passing phase. There is a genuine concern about our children's education ......

Up to Feb 14 (2nd day of Ops Sikap), the death toll on Malaysian road has gone really bad, the NST said ..

 KUALA LUMPUR: The second day of Ops Sikap XII on Monday recorded 15 deaths from a total of 1,034 accidents nationwide, bringing the tally to 40 fatalities.

This marked a 100 per cent jump from the 20 deaths recorded in the first two days of Ops Sikap X last year.  (emphasis ours).

Let's make our journey save - be patient, considerate, keep to speed limit and traffic rules and make our celebration a happy one.

 KIDS FOR PEACE ART PROJECT

The world is going through turbulent times, nervously anticipating a war that has been building up since September 11^th. Children are exposed to gruesome acts of terror and violence everyday through the media. How do they make sense of all these? What is their vision of the world that they would very soon inherit? What do they value in life?

To capture children’s feelings on these issues, FamilyPlace is organizing a Kids for Peace art project where kids express their vision of what peace is and how it can be achieved through their works of art. Children from all over the country can submit their art via postal mail or even email. An e-exhibition will be put up on the website (www.familyplace.com.my) and a special day will be chosen for an exhibition and presentation of art & songs on peace by children in Subang Jaya
